Citation and Referencing
========================

Virtually all good scientific work builds on work done previously by others. In Computer Science, you will consult technical material, documentation and scientific literature as part of your work. 

When reporting on your own work, you need to demonstrate the work that is your own and the sources of the related work that you have consulted to do your work. For assessment purposes, this helps your markers understand the ideas that have influenced your work. More generally, this helps anyone reading your work to find out more information.

This document highlights good practice when referencing these sources. This is intended for undergraduate students producing reports for assignments and projects in the `Department of Computer Science <https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/cs/>`_ at `Aberystwyth University <https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/>`_.
