Help with your work
During your course, there are ways to get support as you learn the materials, work on your projects and develop your solutions. If you have questions about the work or how you can approach working on a problem, consider the following help that is available.
- Demonstrators - practical sessions will often have a number of demonstrators available. You can ask demonstators for help and guidance as you work on worksheets and work on your solution to the assignment.
- Tutorial Sessions - If there are tutorial sessions for the module, you may be able to speak to the person leading your tutorial for some advice.
-
CS Assistance - this is a place where you can come to ask questions you have regarding your practical worksheets and module assignments. It runs through all of the teaching weeks, but does not run during the vacations or the exam period.
There are two hour sessions that take place in the afternoon on most days and in the morning on one day; times are shown below. This year, members of staff are running these sessions. Different teaching staff will take each session.
Semester 1 times Day Times Monday 14:10 to 16:00 Tuesday 14:10 to 16:00 Wednesday 10:10 to 12:00 Thursday 14:10 to 16:00 Friday 14:10 to 16:00 Note: if there needs to be an adjustment to the times, will aim to email to all undergraduate students about the change.
Our assistants will be available in the room LL-B59, which is on the ground floor of the Computer Science building. See the location on OpenStreetMap.
CS Assistance is mainly aimed at undergraduates in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2, but may be able to help with some questions about Year 3 work. It will provide module-related help, but of course it will not solve problems. It can provide you with more one-to-one time than you might receive during a practical session with demonstrators.
- Lecturers - You can also ask your lecturers for guidance on approaching the problem. Also, look out for opportunities to ask questions such as through a discussion board on Blackboard.
- Reading Lists - For each of your modules, you will see an entry for the Aspire Reading List in Blackboard. Look on the menu on the left-hand side of your Module pages. These reading lists contains a set of essential or recommended resources to help you to learn the topics in the modules.
When you are set work to do, we advise you to start work early. This will allow time to ask for help and act on the guidance and advice provided.
