Help with your work
During your course, there are ways to get support as you learn the materials, work on your projects and develop your solutions. If you have questions about the work or how you can approach working on a problem, consider the following help that is available.
- Demonstrators - practical sessions will often have a number of demonstrators available. You can ask demonstators for help and guidance as you work on your solution to the assignment.
- Tutorial Sessions - If there are tutorial sessions for the module, you may be able to speak to the person leading your tutorial for some advice.
-
CS Assistance - this is the new name for CS Advisory. This has changed to avoid confusion with the Adcademic Advisors. From week 2 of Semester 1, CS Assistance is generally available between 2pm and 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; we are trying to find someone for Thursdays. It runs through all of the teaching weeks, but does not run during the vacations.
Our assistants will be available in the room LL-B59, which is on the ground floor of the Computer Science building. You can also access assistance through the Discord server that we have setup. An invite code to the CS Assistance Discord server will be shared by email to all of the students in the department. You can also find the Discord Invite code via the Computer Science Undergraduate Information module on Blackboard.
CS Assistance is mainly aimed at Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students, but may be able to help with some questions about Year 3 work. It will provide module-related help, but of course it will not solve problems. It can provide you with more one-to-one time than you might receive during a practical session with demonstrators.
- Lecturers - You can also ask your lecturers for guidance on approaching the problem. Also, look out for opportunities to ask questions such as through a discussion board on Blackboard.
- Reading Lists - For each of your modules, you will see an entry for the Aspire Reading List in Blackboard. Look on the menu on the left-hand side of your Module pages. These reading lists contains a set of essential or recommended resources to help you to learn the topics in the modules.
When you are set work to do, we advise you to start work early. This will allow time to ask for help and act on the guidance and advice provided.
